Epic Church Buffalo — Best Kid-Friendly Church

Located about 11 miles outside Buffalo in Williamsville, Epic Church Buffalo is one of the largest congregations in the Buffalo area. The church, led by Pastor Mark Rouse, was created as a life-giving place for people to experience God. The church is founded on core values of excellence, trust, servant-leadership, teachability, and enjoyability with a live band every week.

Epic Church Buffalo is a great place for kids with a safe kid’s worship program called Epic Kids for kids through 5th grade. Epic Kids is only staffed by background-checked staff members who undergo training to make sure kids have a fun and rewarding experience.

Good Shepherd Community of Faith — Gay Friendly Buffalo Church

Located near Heacock Park in South Buffalo, Good Shepherd Community of Faith is one of the best gay friendly Buffalo churches with services, classes, and events open to everyone. This open, affirming congregation is led by Reverend Tanya Spencer with a mission stating, “No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you’re welcomed here.”

The church has a history in South Buffalo dating back to 1887 and has been known for its welcoming and affirming since the early 2000s when the church opposed a resolution by the Niagara Area Baptist Association to ban member churches from welcoming LGBTQ people.

Good Shepherd Community of Faith is a member of the United Church of Christ and American Baptist Churches USA. In addition to weekly services, the church hosts regular community events including a women’s ministry group, support groups, prayer circles, and classes.

Westminster Presbyterian Church — Musical Worship in Buffalo

Located in downtown Buffalo, Westminster Presbyterian Church is a welcoming church open to members of all races, ages, gender identities, sexualities, and religious affiliations. Westminster Presbyterian Church has supported LGBTQ members since the 1970s and embraces interfaith collaboration. The church, founded in 1854, is considered one of the most beautiful churches in Buffalo.

The church focuses on encouraging personal growth, advocacy services, and worshipping with music and the arts with the belief that music is the ideal conduit of religious exaltation. Music has played an integral role in worship at Westminster since 1854 with two Aeolian-Skinner pipe organs, six-octave handbell and chime sets, five Steinway grand pianos, and choirs that provide choral music and vocal leadership for around 85 worship services per year.

True Bethel Baptist Church — Buffalo’s Largest Church

True Bethel was founded in 1961 with just eight members but it has grown to a congregation of more than 3,000 in three locations: downtown Buffalo, East Ferry Street, and Niagara Falls. Led today by Pastor Darius Pridgen, True Bethel has a mission to glorify God through salvation for sinners with core values that include worship, excellence, love, accountability, trust, and service.

Buffalo Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also known as the Mormon Church or LDS Church, has over 16 million members around the world. Every congregation follows the basic church doctrines and follows the direction of Russell M. Nelson, the current church prophet, with an emphasis on families.

New York is home to 17 stakes and 143 congregations of the LDS Church. The Buffalo Stake at the Buffalo Stake Center in downtown Buffalo holds regular worship services as well as events such as single adult fireside dinners, concerts, and fairs.

Saint Louis Roman Catholic Church — Most Beautiful Church in Buffalo

Saint Louis Roman Catholic Church is one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in Buffalo, NY with a history going back more than 175 years. This stunning Gothic style church, made in the Gothic style of the 14th century from Medina red sandstone, was outfitted by local sculptors and woodworkers with stained glass sanctuary windows depicting the life of St. Louis IX of France. Its gorgeous spire, a focal point of the Buffalo skyline, is America’s highest open laced spire.

Led by Rev. Monsignor Salvatore Manganello, St. Louis Church is a thriving congregation with more than 673 registered families. In addition to regular worship service and Holy Days services, St. Louis Church offers multi-grade religious education for children ages 2 through 10th grade with no enrollment fee.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church — LGBT Friendly Buffalo Church

Led by Senior Pastor Rev. Lee M. Miller II, Holy Trinity Buffalo is one of several Lutheran churches in Buffalo that follows the teachings of Martin Luther, the doctrine that scripture is the final authority on faith matters, and the doctrine of justification that humans are saved from sins by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, and on the basis of scripture alone.

Holy Trinity belongs to ReconcilingWorks: Lutherans for Full Participation which advocates for the full inclusion and welcome of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
