About This Service
One Team for Your Office Closure, Downsizing or Lease Exit
Move out what you are keeping and clear out what you are not.
Moving out of an office is often only half the job. Your lease may require the space to be empty by a fixed date, leaving you with desks, cubicles, filing cabinets, breakroom appliances and years of accumulated equipment to deal with. Coordinating separate vendors for each task takes time your team may not have. Wayfinder Moving’s office decommissioning services bring that work under one plan. Based in Buffalo and IOMI-certified for office moves, our crews take apart and remove furniture, move anything you are keeping and provide the labor and transportation for items going to resale, donation, recycling, e-waste or disposal.

How Office Decommissioning Costs Are Determined
The main factors that shape your project quote:
Size of the Space
The square footage and number of rooms or floors affect crew size and project length.
Furniture & Equipment Volume
The amount and type of items determine labor and truck needs.
Teardown Complexity
Workstation systems and built-to-fit pieces require more time than freestanding furniture.
Item Destinations
Costs vary based on what is relocated, stored, reused, recycled or disposed of.
Building Access
Dock restrictions, elevator windows and long carries can affect project time.
Schedule
Short deadlines can change labor requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Office Decommissioning Questions, Answered
What to know before you close or leave an office.
What is office decommissioning?
Office decommissioning is the process of emptying an office space when a business closes, downsizes or leaves a lease. It usually includes removing furniture and equipment, moving retained items and handling unwanted items.
How far ahead should we start planning?
Four to eight weeks before your surrender date is typically good. Smaller projects can work on a shorter timeline, and spaces over 20,000 square feet typically need more time.
What happens to furniture we do not want?
We provide the labor and transportation to take it to resale or donation outlets, recycling or disposal. If you need donation receipts, disposal records or certificates of destruction, tell us before the work starts.
Can you also move what we are keeping?
Yes. We can move retained furniture, files and equipment to your new location or place them in our Buffalo storage facility.
Do you clean or restore the space?
We do not provide final cleaning, wall patching, cabling removal or other lease restoration work. We can refer a cleaning provider if you need one.
Do you handle industrial or environmental decommissioning?
No. We do not handle hazardous materials, remediation or demolition.
